Congratulations, MGMT: A Review
Congratulations is an adventurous pop record for MGMT’s core duo, Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser. The same band that was mocking fame on their breakout hit “Time To Pretend” found themselves at the top of the indie-rock genre in 2009 when they buckled down to write their follow-up. With their keen sense of humor firmly intact, the band explores the pressures of life and their newfound success in lyrical themes all over the record.
Surfer Blood
Don't miss indie pop act Surfer Blood, they're nothing like the Beach Boys. Surfer Blood's sound is complete with the crunchy guitar, infectious hooks and endless sing-along moments that made the landmark album such a classic. There lead single is "Swim". Download it now. The band debuted at San Francisco's Rickshaw Stop last November. While their Friday night blowout with Turbo Fruits and Ganglians at Bottom of the Hill has long been sold out, Surfer Blood will be performing a free show at Amoeba Thursday -- the show starts at 6pm sharp, so be sure to get over to Haight Street early.
Coachella
The first of the summer's massive multi-day American festivals is upon us! The lineup? It's a doozy once again. Jay-Z! Muse! Pavement! Faith No More! Tiësto! Gorillaz! LCD Soundsystem! Vampire Weekend! MGMT! Phoenix! Sly and the Family Stone?!!!! And yes, that is how Thom Yorke is billing himself these days.
